FORT LAUDERDALE POOLSIDE ADDITION
A 1,000 Sq Ft Two Story Primary Suite Expansion Designed for Tropical Indoor Outdoor Living
A thoughtful addition designed to provide a tranquil sanctuary for a growing family, this project serves as an all encompassing primary retreat. The expansion was crafted to balance the need for personal space with an architecture driven approach that celebrates the home’s vibrant poolside environment, ensuring every square foot feels like an intentional escape from the main household.
The journey into the new wing begins through a subtle hallway framed by windows on either side. This transitional space offers a moment of pause and a framed view of the lush, manicured landscaping before one enters the private realm. By using this light filled corridor, the addition maintains a sense of transparency while clearly defining the boundary between the original home and the new suite.
Step inside the ground floor, and you will find a versatile interior that effortlessly combines productivity with leisure. This level features a spacious home office and a cozy living area, both of which are defined by an obsession with natural light and air. To truly embrace the poolside lifestyle, the design utilizes expansive, full ceiling glass elements. Fully operable sliding glass doors allow the living space to merge completely with the exterior, inviting the coastal breeze and the energy of the water into the heart of the home. This commitment to openness extends even to the downstairs bathroom, where operable sliding doors ensure a constant flow of light and ventilation.
Moving to the second level, the program transitions into an intimate haven. The primary bedroom serves as the centerpiece, opening onto a large private balcony that offers commanding views of the pool deck. Adjacent to the sleeping quarters, a custom fitted closet and a compact home gym share these same vistas, ensuring that the morning routine is backdropped by the home’s tropical canopy.
Architecturally, the project represents a strategic balance between a modest budget and high impact design. Nestled tightly between the rear yard setbacks and the existing pool and pool deck, the structure utilizes a clean square footprint and a simplified roof truss design to facilitate a quick construction timeline and maximize efficiency. These restrained structural choices were made with careful intent: to make room for the non negotiables such as luxurious, full ceiling glass operable elements that were essential to the homeowners' vision.
The Fort Lauderdale Poolside Addition stands as a modern architectural retreat a gateway to a lifestyle where comfort, transparency, and the vibrant energy of South Florida living intertwine in perfect harmony. Although the project was fully permitted and approved in 2024, construction has currently been postponed as the family welcomed a new addition of their own.
